It’s one of those shots that most people don’t practice. In today’s tennis lesson, we’re going to talk about what to do with your finish on the defensive tennis forehand. Most coaches will never even touch this during their tennis lessons with you so you would be very smart to pay attention to these valuable tips. What I want you to realize is that the further you get stretched deep in the court on the forehand side, the more you have to focus on getting more height over the net and depth on the shot. This will be easier to do if you swing up instead of across your body. You can also use the buggy whip on this shot like Rafael Nadal but you might feel less stable with the buggy whip finish when you are running out wide. Instead, in this tennis lesson I will show you how to use the high drive finish. You can still turn the hand (or wrist up) to get more spin but you definitely want to finish high over your shoulder to ensure that you get a lot of height over the net. When you get pushed back on the defensive tennis forehand, be sure to finish high. Interestingly this might be the only swing thought you need to focus on when you are under a lot of stress to get a good result. Give this a shot the next time you go out onto the court.
